Portrait of an American: an Individual's Impact on History

Purpose: Assess the impact of influential figures of the 19th century on United States history.

Assignment in brief

Your task is to research and discuss the contributions and significance of one influential figure in US History during the 19th century.  You will create a presentation (7 – 10 minutes) that will consist of both visual and oral components. You will be graded on content, visual appearance, and oral delivery.

*This is a research presentation so you will need a minimum of 10 sources (3 book sources).

You will formulate a thesis concerning your individual’s significance to US History.

**This assignment will count as a test grade.

 

Be sure to include:

  • Basic biographical information AND how that influenced their life and work
  • Identify a handful of key events, ideas, accomplishments AND EXPLAIN in detail
  • Discuss how these things impacted society and the course of US History
